How Does Buying Creation Coffee Support Compassion UK?
Every time you buy from us, you help fund Compassion UK. We give 10% of our profits to them.
That applies to a single bag, a Coffee Club subscription and the coffee we supply to churches. You do not need to tick a box or pay extra.
We chose one named charity on purpose. It means you can check who they are and what they do for yourself.
Jon founded Creation Coffee as a Christian business, one where profit has a purpose. Giving is part of that purpose.
Who Is Compassion UK and What Do They Do?
Compassion UK is a Christian child development charity. It is part of a global Compassion network whose work began in 1952.
Compassion does not run its programmes from a distance. It works in partnership with local churches in communities facing poverty.
Those churches know their neighbours. Compassion says local staff identify the children most in need and run the projects day to day.
Where Compassion works
Compassion UK says it works with local churches in 29 countries. These span Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
What makes the model different
The focus is the whole child. That means health, education, food and emotional care together, not one need in isolation.
You can read more on the Compassion UK website. We would encourage you to look.
Why a Children's Charity? 3 Reasons Compassion Fits
There are many good causes. So why did we pick one focused on children?
1. Children feel poverty first
When a family has little, children often miss school, meals or a doctor. Help at that age can change the path of a whole life.
2. The local church is already there
Compassion works through churches that live in the same streets as the children. That fits how we think faith should work: close, practical and long term.
3. It goes beyond one need
Compassion looks at health, learning, food and emotional care together. We like that it treats each child as a whole person.
None of this makes our giving special. Lots of people support Compassion faithfully. We simply wanted our business to join them.

Our Sustainability and EthicsWhat Does £32 a Month Provide Through Child Sponsorship?
Child sponsorship is the heart of Compassion's work. Compassion UK says sponsorship costs £32 a month.
According to Compassion, that sponsorship helps a child access:
- Medical check-ups
- Education
- Food
- Clothing
- Social and emotional care, through the local church
Sponsors can also write letters to the child they support. Compassion describes it as one sponsor helping to empower one child.
A letter takes a few minutes to write. For a child, it is proof that someone far away knows their name.
Our giving goes to Compassion UK as a charity, rather than to one named child. But it is helpful to know what this level of support looks like on the ground.
How child sponsorship works
This short video explains how Compassion's child sponsorship works through local churches. It is a clear picture of the work your coffee helps support.
Why the Coffee Lands Connect: 5 Origins, 5 Compassion Countries
This is the part we find most moving. Many coffee-growing countries are also places where poverty hits children hardest.
Compassion lists all five of these countries among the places it works. Each one is also an origin in our current range.
- Colombia: our Colombia Planadas and the El Buho Sugarcane Decaf
- Guatemala: our Guatemala Jabiru Union Cantinil, grown by smallholders in Huehuetenango
- Ethiopia: our Lala Salama Decaf from the Sidama region
- Brazil: our Brazil Eagle Carmelo, from women farmers in the Cerrado Mineiro
- Rwanda: part of our Genesis Espresso Blend
We want to be careful here. We are not saying our farms sit inside Compassion projects. We are saying the countries that grow your coffee are countries Compassion serves.
That link matters to us. Coffee money flows out of these countries, and some of it now flows back.
Next time you open a bag, look at the origin on the label. It is a small reminder of the families and children on the other end of your cup.
Why We Give 10% of Profits, and Why It Is a Faith Decision
Giving a tenth has deep roots in Christian practice. Many believers tithe from their own income, and Jon wanted the business to do the same.
It is not about looking good. It is about believing that a business can serve people, not just make money from them.
One verse sits close to how Jon works. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord." (Colossians 3:23)
For a small roastery, 10% of profits is a real commitment. It shapes how we price, how we source and how we grow.

How Churches Can Pair Coffee and Compassion
Many of our customers are churches. After-service coffee is one of the warmest moments in the week. It is a natural place to talk about giving.
Here are a few simple ideas that do not need extra volunteers.
- Put a small card by the urn explaining that the coffee supports Compassion UK
- Mention it once in the notices when you switch supplier
- Link it to any child sponsorship your church already supports
- Use it as a gentle conversation starter with newcomers over a cup
If you run church hospitality, our guide to choosing a church coffee supplier covers cost per cup, freshness and waste.

Join the Coffee ClubHow to Check Any Coffee Brand's Charity Claim in 3 Steps
We would rather you trust us because you checked, not because we said so. Here is a quick test for any brand.
- Is the charity named? "Supporting communities" is not a charity. A registered name is.
- Is the share clear? Look for a percentage, and whether it is of profit or of sales.
- Is it ongoing? A one-off donation is kind, but a standing commitment is different.
We go much deeper on this in Does Your Coffee Give Back?, including how to spot greenwashing.
It is also worth looking at sourcing, not just giving. Our sustainability and ethics page covers how we buy beans and pack them.
Want to Do More? 4 Simple Ways to Get Involved
If Compassion's work speaks to you, there are easy next steps beyond your coffee order.
- Sponsor a child directly. Visit Compassion UK to see children waiting for a sponsor.
- Pray for the work. Remember the children, families and local churches that Compassion serves.
- Bring it to your church. Many churches back Compassion as part of their mission giving.
- Switch your church coffee. Our Scoop and Save programme lets churches serve better coffee that also supports Compassion.
Small, steady choices add up. A morning cup is one of the steadiest habits most of us have.
If you already sponsor a child, thank you. Your coffee order now sits quietly alongside that giving every month.
