Most coffee roasters pick a location for logistics — good transport links, cheap industrial units, proximity to a port. Creation Coffee is roasted from a log cabin in Weaverham, a village in Cheshire that has no particular reason to be a coffee hub. Here's why that's exactly the point.
A cabin, not a warehouse
Jon Cook, Creation Coffee's founder, roasts every single batch himself from a cabin in Weaverham — not a rented industrial unit, not a shared roasting facility. It's small-batch by necessity as much as by choice: there's only so much one drum roaster in one cabin can produce in a day. That's a deliberate trade-off. It means every bag has actually been tasted and checked by the person who roasted it, rather than signed off by a quality process on a production line.
Jon also founded the Stronghold Café in Weaverham — a real community space where the coffee gets served to real people every day, not just photographed for a website. If a batch isn't good enough, it's the same person serving it across the counter who has to hear about it. That's a fairly effective quality control system.
Why here, specifically
Weaverham sits in the CW8 postcode, a few miles from Northwich and roughly equidistant from Chester, Warrington and Manchester — close enough to deliver fresh across Cheshire and the North West quickly, without being in the middle of a city. It's ordinary in a good way: a village with a high street, a school, and neighbours who now happen to live a few hundred metres from where their coffee is roasted.
That proximity isn't just a nice story. Coffee starts losing its best flavour within a few weeks of roasting, and a lot of what's sold in supermarkets has already been sitting in a warehouse for a month or more before it reaches a shelf. Every Creation Coffee order is roasted to order and dispatched within 48 hours — a promise that's much easier to keep from a village cabin roasting to order than a facility trying to keep shelves stocked nationally.
What roasting here is actually for
Creation Coffee was built as a Christian business from the start — not a brand exercise, but the reason Jon started it. Ten percent of every sale goes to Compassion UK, a charity working in the same regions the beans are sourced from, and the sourcing itself runs through direct trade relationships rather than blind commodity buying. Roasting in a small Cheshire village rather than scaling into a bigger facility keeps that model workable: smaller batches, closer oversight, and a business that stays answerable to one person's judgement rather than a production schedule.
